This little gem turned up on my Netflix suggestions the other day and after a horrible experience watching another “suggestion” (which I will discuss in another post) I was hesitant to take a chance on it. Was I ever surprised. House of the Devil turned out to be a great satanic cult based flick perfect for the halloween season late night horror viewing. Ti West delivers a great horror/suspense film set in the 80’s (which he pulls off superbly) complete with all your favourite 80’s bands. There are a few scenes in House that the gorehounds (me being one of them) will definitely appreciate; though it is pretty minimal and not the focus of the film. The lead, Jocelin Donahue is a hottie even though she is stuck wearing those horrible acid washed jeans that were so damn prevalent in the 80’s. My only gripe with House of the Devil was the ending, I felt it got a little wonky and overdone. Overall great movie for any fan of 80’s horror. Watch it.

Next Up: A Smoke and a Pancake.
